How many hosting accounts are needed for best SEO? My personal experience:

Selecting a Web Host
Here is a checklist for selecting a web host. Take it as a template for the questions you need to ask the issues you need to check. Switching a company is not easy - it's better to ask those questions in advance then being disappointed.
Quality Service
- What's the response time?
- Do they offer real-time support using chat?
- Do they offer phone support? In which hours?
- Listed price for extra services or all included .
- Availabilty of script installation services?
- Do they actively push security updates to your customers?
The end of hosting
Who needs hosting? Not the small business owner. Not the entreprenur. Too complicated for him.
Many small business owners want to host websites under their own account, to save costs.
While this was OK for static sites, dynamic sites are a totally different story.
If you have a CMS, from time to time your website software will need security upgrades, or other upgrades. If you won't do it, there's a security risk.
Slideshow and presentation hosting with Slideshare's Facebook slides app
Slideshare is a great application for unlimited Powerpoint slide hosting. Sharing powerpoint (and openoffice) slides could not be easier with their new and improved facebook application.
Google Apps - Social Networks Compatibility
I wouldn't recommend Google Enterprise / GoogleApps (@googleatwork) - you can't import contacts to facebook, twitter and other social networks. Simple Gmail accounts integrate much better.
@googleatwork, would you provide a simple option for GoogleApps email to be compatible with social networks?
Site5 Reseller Hosting Review
Last week, site5 moved all of my sites to a new server. They did it on their initiative, after sending 5-6 emails on their intention to do so. As a result, all of my websites stopped working.
The server move caused a changed directory structure and modified apache permissions. Not only site5 didn't fix it, but they expected me to fix what they caused.
Luckily enough, this is my last week with site5. The renewal time is the 1st of May - and I won't renew. The email support is just horrible.
Shared hosting or VPS or dedicated server?
Today I've came to the conclusion again: A VPS - virtual host - is not a good solution for my Drupal websites. It's great for development, but once you get traffic, the VPS operating system overhead kills pefromance. For real life, a non-loaded shared hosting plan is much better, especially one which is configured for Drupal. The site http://drupalmodules.com is using a shared hosting provider. Still - it preforms very fast.
Custom nameservers? Simple is better.
Many webhosts allow the customer to create custom nameservers (also known as reseller nameservers, stealth nameservers), for shared hosting resellers. Sometimes it's a part of a reseller hosting package, and sometimes it's part of a custom webhosting deal. Is it recommended?
